Meet one of our PGA Professionals – Gary Milne

Gary Milne

I have been a PGA Professional for 26 years and was introduced to golf by my father at the age of 7 whilst living in Swaziland, Southern Africa. Little did I know at that time the pleasure, the experiences and the opportunities the game of golf would give me!

A year later we moved to Rhodesia where I continued to play and improve and at the age of 11 started playing Junior County Golf. This was the platform that inspired me to want to go on to bigger and better!

In 1980 I returned to England and represented Devon throughout the 1980’s and was a member of the Devon team that won the English County finals in 1985. My biggest thrill came in 1989 when I qualified for The British Open at Royal Troon! A week I will never forget!

I turned professional in 1990 and in 1994 became the Head Professional at Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club (10 years) during my time at Taunton broke the magic 60 scoring a 58!! Lately, I was Head Professional at Exeter Golf & Country Club (12 years)

My passion has always been my coaching and was honoured to take up the post of Head County Coach for Devon 7 years ago. You will over the coming months see the best of Devon’s talent being put through their paces at Woodbury Park. I was awarded West Region PGA coach of the year 2011 following Harrison Greenberry’s win in The British Boys Championship! A very proud moment!!

My coaching experience is a massive asset when it comes to my other passion custom fitting. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than ensuring that people gain the most from their equipment!

Last year having qualified for the Seniors British Open at Sunningdale, my second Major! I was fortunate to rub shoulders with some of the world’s greats again but sadly, my hero Seve wasn’t there!
