Congratulations Fiona Cummings

Mid September, in aid of Born Free Foundation, Fiona Cummings climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. Continue on reading for her amazing strory…

This year, my birthday present to myself was to take on probably the biggest challenge of my life so far and climb Mount Kilimanjaro, known as ‘The roof of Africa’ which stands at 5,895m above the sea level. Very nearly a decade ago to the day, I walked the first section of the Marangu Route to the view point just above the Mandara Hut – 10 years later and over a week on the mountain, I was off to reach the summit.

On Friday 13th our Summit night started with us being woken up at 11pm, breakfast at 11.30pm and at midnight we started our walk to the Summit. The first 3 hours just disappeared as I got into a rhythm but between 3.30am to 6.30am the temperature dropped down to -15, at 5.30am the light started to change and we saw the most incredible sunrise and I reached the summit at 8.10am. Thank you all so much for helping me reach my target …

Well done again Fiona, what an amazing achievement.

If any of you are endeavouring any adventures, challenges or races keep your stories coming in! We love reading and sharing your journeys.
