The Latest News from the Health Club

As we bid farewell to a rainy May it looks like summer may have officially arrived! There’s lots to look forward to at the club over the next few weeks, as we embark on a spectacular Summer of Sport which began with Euro 2020 on 11th June.

It’s been wonderful to have welcomed so many of our members back to the Club recently, bringing the energy we’ve all missed so much.

My heart was filled with joy to see so many members return to indoor studio classes. Many of you, like the lovely Margaret Edmonds, have been away from the Club since the start of Covid just doing the online classes; now at last we are back together enjoying indoor classes.

Our terrace and clubhouse certainly felt the impact of indoor dining returning on 17th May, and table service is proving challenging with the volume of members supporting club and from our visitors.

We recently opened our fabulous new concept Pulse Bar and Café; unfortunately, we’re only operating half our proposed offering currently due to a lack of demand in the recruitment market but hope to be up and running as soon as possible. Thank you for those members who have already submitted some positive feedback on the service and ambience of the new space.

We are currently on a significant recruitment campaign to bring new faces to the team as we look to build upon our core team. You may have read in the press that the industry across the UK is suffering quite badly at the moment. The demand for F&B staff has greatly impacted our food and drinks suppliers, both of which are the largest in the country. Please be assured we are doing everything we can to reduce any negative impacts on your visit - however at certain times we may have to offer a reduced menu or kitchen opening times. Unfortunately due to when we receive information from our suppliers we may be unable to give as much advance notice of this as we'd like. We're currently setting up accounts with alternative suppliers to help reduce this impact, and hope to be able to return to normal service shortly. If you happen to know anyone in the local catering world looking for a change of scenery, I would be happy to offer a “finder’s fee” of £150 to your membership card to spend in club. Please contact me directly.

Recently we launched our new feedback platform FeedItBack, and it has been great to see the level of member engagement this is bringing. Despite being busy in the clubhouse the team have received some nice feedback which has been very encouraging.

Group Exercise

With the return of Zumba bringing a ‘party atmosphere’ back to the studio, we’re keeping it going with Burlesque classes now added to the timetable. Get ready for strong and confident dance moves with even a few feather boas in the mix! A big thank you for returning to the Stability Ball class on Fridays - so much fun, and a little bit of work too!

It’s a bit more relaxed in our new Holistic Studio where we see another familiar face return - Sam Ford, our Tai Chi Instructor, has been delivering our extremely popular online classes and has now returned to face-to-face classes - it's so lovely to have him back in the flesh.

The outside classes have seen the return of the Devon sunshine and a new Instructor called Matthew who can cover most classes, including Aqua! He is also taking Group Cycle on Wednesday mornings at 7am and Thursdays at 6.30pm.

Thank you so much for the feedback we receive on the timetable, which helps us move or add classes. Please note a slight change to Sunday’s classes, as we are now running Body Pump at 9.30, Balance at 10.30 and Street Dance for the kids at 11.30, all still with Daisy. Finally, thank you for your help in cleaning equipment and placing it in the right place for fogging – these simple measures allow us to stay safe and continue to enjoy both the classes and each other’s company.

Crèche Update

Tor, Tayde & Faye had a very busy half term - the crèche had their own bake-off week! We made farmyard cupcakes, cookie dough pops, pancakes, rainbow cake pops, biscuits, and Rocky Road. Thanks to all our members for joining us in all the fun - it was lovely to welcome back some familiar friends and meet lots of new happy faces.

We are already planning the summer holidays - for enquiries about our our summer camp for 5 -12-year-olds please pop into the creche for more details.
