The Golfing Season has arrived

Peter Laugher

The first Major tournament of the season has been and gone and once again what a fabulous event The Masters has been. For those of you who had a go at the sweepstake, thank you and to the lucky few who won a prize, well done.

This event has seen some spectacular golf year after year and once again, despite the course being lengthened, the players were epic! Despite the back surgery and problematic personal life Tiger Woods returned to the winners enclosure in great style and did he look pleased to win with his children there to see him!

Well, if that does not give you the urge to start playing again then I do not know what will, even I ventured out onto the putting green to do some practice, maybe I could resurrect my game?

If it wasn’t The Masters that got you all interested in playing again it must have been the amazing work done on the course over the winter by Paul Reeve and his team, they have worked really hard to get the course looking as good as it does already, this early in the season and they are to be congratulated on their efforts.

I am really pleased with the uptake in membership and I am sure most of that is down to the course condition! So, all we have to do now is get out there and enjoy.

The Lady Captain Julie Browne and our Seniors’ Captain Barrie Thomas travelled up to The Club Company Captains Invitational event at Castle Royle on Sunday 14th April to represent Woodbury Park and both played very well finishing in close proximity to the winners of their section.

April’s club competitions produced some great golf:
Saturday 20th was an Individual Stableford won by Paul Reed with 41 points and Jan Morrison with 34 points
Wednesday 17th Midweek Stableford was won by Martyn Stevens with 41 points
The Individual Stableford on Saturday 13th was won by Aston Mills with 37 points and Victoria Varley with 32 points
Matthew Box won the Midweek Stableford, with 41 points and Gary Anstead & Les Phare won the Skinner Playford 4 somes qualifier with a net 73.5

The Acorns Stableford Qualifier and Summer Eclectic Rd1 was won by Keith Lunness with 35 points.

If you are looking to find playing partners check out the Forum under My Golf on the IG home page, we have created an item that may help; there is a post “Need a Playing Partner”, which you can join and add to where you may find like minded people looking for a game.

We are looking forward to seeing you out on the course very soon.
